An exciting array of hand-crafted, artisan quality Hungarian wines is
entering the United States this fall, lead by top winemakers from the premiere
vineyards of Hungary. The market will have a chance to taste some limited
release, high-end Hungarian wines from the Monarchia Gold and Proprietor
Selections, as well as broader based, value driven quality wines from the
Estate Selection.
Proprietor & Gold Selection red wines such as the Takler's Cabernet
Franc '03 (120 cases produced), REGNUM Cuvee '02, NOIR Gold '03, and Bikaver
Reserve '02 will be released at approximate retail values $90, $70, $33,
and $25 respectively. From Vylyan Winery new releases include Gold Selection
Pinot Noir '02 ($24), Bordeaux-style blend Mini Evolution '02 ($15), and
the Zweigelt '01 ($17). Monarchia's own Eger vineyard will launch the Noir
'03, featuring the Kekfrankos (Blaufrankisch-$15) varietal.
On the white wine front Nyakas Cellars Sauvignon Blanc ($14) and Muller
Thurgau ($12) are two fresh, aromatic white wines created by the producers
of the Monarchia's Pinot Gris and Olivier. The selection is capped off by
the wines of maverick winemaker Zoltan Demeter of Tokaj-Hegyalja, where Monarchia
will introduce his Unfiltered Dry Tokaji Furmint with a 120 case release
($33). In addition, expect to see Demeter's Tokaji Aszu Essencia ($200 with
